While using a crate to house train your Puppy can be useful, it is possible to potty train a Puppy without the use of one. If you do not feel comfortable using a crate, or you just do not have one available, then you can use other methods to house train.
You will need to keep a constant eye on your Puppy at all times while you are training her so you can avoid accidents in your house and learn to look for signs that your puppy may have to go out. Some of these signs may include your puppy walking around in circles, arching his back or sniffing at the floor. If you see your dog doing any of these things, it may be time for a bathroom break.
Beagle
Puppies have very small bladders and cannot hold them for very long, so it is very important that you take her out every hour or so to ensure she does not eliminate on your rug. Bringing her outside right after she eat or drinks anything will help too. I had to do that when potty training my Beagle, it seemed like she would pee on my rug while she was still drinking water. I found out that is because water acts like a trigger for dogs and it makes them have to urinate almost right away.
When you take your dog out to go to the bathroom, go with them and make sure they go. Often times it may seem like they do not have to go, then when they come back in they go all over your floor. This can be avoided if you take them outside and wait for them to go without playing with them or distracting them from the task at hand.
I have a specific spot on my lawn where I allow my Beagle to go, so when I take her outside, to that spot, she knows what she is there to do. Then I use praise and give her a treat. Now she knows what to do when I bring her to that spot and I have not had another accident inside.
As you can see, there are a few tips and tricks to house train your puppy without a crate and if you do it right and keep your eye on your puppy at all times, you will be able to do it to.
