The thing about Miniature Beagle puppies is that they have an amazing sense of smell. Yes, most dogs have a great sense of smell, but the Mini Beagle trumps them all. It seems like they can smell bacon from three counties away.
This fact makes these tiny dogs quite comical at times, as you can just look into their face and know that they smell something…they get excited, look you right back in the eye and seem to say-would you please go get me that BLT sandwich. These dogs are indeed big fun.

They are bred for their small size and are a good bit smaller than their larger standard Beagle cousins. If you want a bigger dog and you like Beagles then perhaps the miniature isn’t for you. However, if you live in the city and you’re looking for a “city dog” then this breed fits the bill beautifully.
For those of you who don’t live in a major urban area you won’t have to worry about this, but for those of you who do or for those of you who are thinking about moving into the city keep in mind that most, in fact almost all, larger apartment buildings (and high-rises) will have severe weight restrictions on pets (dogs and cats), so think small.
Most buildings cap the dog weight limit at around 35 to 45 pounds, so medium dogs might be ok, but feed them too well and then they might not be. You don’t want to get the boot or have to get rid of your dog, right? That’s where the Miniature Beagle comes in quite handy, this dog will never grow that large.
If you’re looking to buy a Miniature Beagle then by all means check your local rescue center or adoption organization, there may be one that needs a home. However, if you’re searching for Miniature Beagle puppies, you won’t generally find them in the shelters. Shelters usually have all adult dogs, and dogs that sadly have usually been abused, and that can be a lot to take on for many people.
This leads most people to the internet to buy a Puppy. And this is great, but you have to be careful about who you’re buying from. Beagle minis are a very popular breed, which makes them pretty expensive, and in case you didn’t know it, puppies (ones under 12 weeks), are fairly expensive (into the hundreds of dollars) which sometimes leads to unscrupulous people entering this market.
Be sure to check for licensed breeders and if something feels shady then it probably is shady. Don’t worry there are plenty of great people out there to do business with, you’ll find them with some effort.
Lastly, Mini Beagles can be pretty “yappy” dogs, so be prepared for that, if possible observe the behavior of a litter of Miniature Beagle puppies and try to pick out the mellowest one. Happy hunting.
